Puri Jagannadh, who is known for his powerful portrayal of villainous characters, is set to launch Akash as the lead actor of his upcoming film Mehabooba. He has cast Gautam Kurup to play a negative role.
“It was an uphill task for me to land a role in Puri Jagannadh’s film. Every time the director announced a new project, I would start pursuing his team asking for work. They would tell me that when the time was right, he would cast me,” said Gautam.
He was in touch with Puri’s team for about four years before finally receiving a call. “I went to his office for the audition. The team told me that they would get in touch with me. After a few days, they offered me a role other than the one I had auditioned for and asked whether I was interested.
I didn’t even think about it for a second before saying ‘yes’. I wanted to work with the director, and I was happy that he had even offered me something,” he said.
The Delhi-based theatre artiste met Puri for the first time on set.
“He knows what he wants and he is a down-to-earth person. After shooting with him I came to know why he was considered the best in the business. After my last shoot, I met Puri sir and he told me ‘we need to work together again’. Now, I am waiting for another call from him,” said Gautam, who hopes that this epic film will be his big break.
