Mukhtar Khan, the reel Police Commissioner

Born and brought up in Hyderabad, Mukhtar has appeared in many Hindi films too. “But my main focus is the South,” he states.

Mukhtar Khan is a very popular and familiar face in South Indian films, especially since he plays the Police Commissioner or some top police official in most of his films. “Most of the directors immediately contact me whenever there is a Police Commissioner’s role in a film,” says Mukhtar Khan, who started his film career with the Chiranjeevi-starrer Rowdy Alludu in 1991.

Since then, he has notably shared screen space with all the top actors. Mukhtar has not only done Telugu films, but he has also starred in many Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films as well.

Now, the actor is very excited to be playing an important role in Mahesh Babu-starrer, Bharat Ane Nenu. “This is the first time I am acting with him and it’s a very good role for me. I thank director Koratala Siva garu for offering me this role. For a change, I am not playing a cop, and I appear along with Mahesh Babu garu in most of the scenes,” says Mukhtar Khan.

The actor is also playing an important role in Saaho. “It is too early to talk about this role, because the shooting is still going on,” he says, while adding that the audience likes to see him mostly in a cop’s role.

“After Simha, most people offered me a Commissioner’s role because my physique fit perfectly. But I want to do full-fledged negative or fatherly roles if given a chance,” he says. Interestingly, Mukhtar has also entered into Bhojpuri films.
