Indian 2' makers demand Rs 75 cr for Telugu rights?

Renowned Kollywood production house Lyca Productions are reportedly demanding Rs 75 crores for Telugu rights of their upcoming magnum opus ‘Indian 2’ and setting new records of sorts. “It is the highest price quoted for any Tamil film in recent times,” says a distributor, who claims that Tamil makers believe that the heady combination of Kamal Haasan and Shankar would draw sensational openings. “Even the big success of dubbed films like ‘Jailer’ and ‘Leo’ in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana could have given them confidence in Tamil producers, so they are reluctant to cut down,” he adds.

Actually, 'Indian' was released in Telugu as ‘Bharateeyudu’ in the 1990s and it rocked the box office in two Telugu states. The anti-corruption tirade of freedom fighter-turned-vigilante was lapped by Telugu audience. “It was one of the biggest hits for Kamal and director Shankar and they intend to repeat the magic after two decades,” he points out.

Meanwhile, the new promo, called ‘Indian 2 Intro,’ shows how the entire country has been waiting for the sequel. The Indian 2 promo, which once again introduces Kamal as ‘Indian,’ shows the actor in multiple looks. The teaser opens with a hardly recognisable Kamal Haasan making a call from a phone booth from a distant country, while being disguised as a suited up man with greying hair and moustache and warns corrupt politicians and bureaucrats in the country.
