Tamil cinema doesn't have strong writers: Karthi

After the success of Oopiri, a Telugu-Tamil bilingual, Karthi was offered a couple of other bilinguals.

After the success of Oopiri, a Telugu-Tamil bilingual, Karthi was offered a couple of other bilinguals. “Bilinguals may be easy for producers, but not for directors and actors. Although the sensibilities of both Telugu and Tamil audiences are the same, each language has to be approached differently,” he explains, talking about why didn’t take up the offers.

“Oopiri worked because the Tamil version was treated as a separate entity. We translated the dialogues first and then a fresh draft was made. I had approached director Raja Murugan for the same,” he reveals.

Baahubali, Karthi says, worked because it was different. “It was a visual experience and something new for the audiences. It won’t work for dramas.” The actor admits, “I am no writer and Tamil cinema doesn’t have strong writers. That’s why I haven’t gone ahead with anything.”
