Pranitha Subhash: Discovering herself in Bollywood

Pranitha Subhash talks about her debut Hindi film, Bhuj: The Pride of India.

Pranitha Subhash will make her Bollywood debut opposite Ajay Devgn in the forthcoming war–drama, Bhuj: The Pride of India. Talking about the film, which will be directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya, Pranitha opened up about why she chose this project.

“The story is based on a true incident, and I believe audiences will connect better to the story. Although I’ve got other Bollywood offers previously, I chose to take this up because I loved the realistic script,” said Pranitha, who also believes that audiences are looking forward to more content-driven films.

The Attarinitiki Daredi actress, who has so far been seen in glamorous roles in the south, will be seen as Ajay Devgn’s wife in the war–drama. But Pranitha doesn’t seem to have any qualms about playing a homemaker. “It’s a traditional role. We’re living in an era where the audience are welcoming content-driven stories, and not just asking to see actresses as glam props. I think the film Mission Mangal is a classic example,” she justifies.

Pranitha, who’s completed only one schedule of the shooting, describes Ajay Devgn as a disciplined actor. “Ajay is always focused about work and looks at a film in its totality,” she adds.

Pranitha’s already been a part of more than 25 films in the south, so does her Bollywood debut seem delayed, we ask her. “To be honest, I never even planned my career in south. I simply went with the flow and took things as they came. When I was young I did not know about the Telugu film industry. Then I forayed into it and one project led to another. So my nine years of film journey feels like self-discovery for me,” she says.
