Remembering the film, Mohan Babu says, “I had delivered a big hit, Alludugadu, which was a comeback film for me as a lead actor. I then decided to do Assembly Rowdy with B. Gopal as the director. Many people had cautioned me about him but I was confident about him and went ahead.” Late Divya Bharati was the heroine of the film. “People had told me many things about her, that she didn’t come for shoots on time and had many tantrums. But I didn’t believe any of it and approached Divya Bharati. She agreed immediately. She was a wonderful actress and if she was alive today she would be the number one actress in India,” adds the actor.
The film had become controversial as many politicians were against the title Assembly Rowdy. “At that time the Congress was in power and I showed the film to all the politicians. They watched it and agreed that it was a good film,” adds Mohan Babu. The film ran for 25 weeks in many centres and became a huge blockbuster.
