It is not uncommon for Telugu filmmakers to pick up storylines from Hollywood films, but they almost never admit to it. Upcoming Telugu film Sammohanam seems to be heavily inspired by the British film Notting Hill. Directed by Indraganti Mohan Krishna, the film has Sudheer Babu and Aditi Rao Hydari playing the lead pair. A teaser of the film was released by actor Chiranjeevi a few days ago. Speaking at the launch of the teaser, Chiranjeevi asked Sudheer Babu what the movie was about. “The story revolves around an actress and a middle-class boy,” Sudheer Babu replied, and people were immediately reminded of the Julia Roberts-starrer from 1999, which is a favourite among the actresses of today.

But, predictably, the filmmakers refused to admit the likeness between the two films. When Chiranjeevi asked Sudheer who had written the story, he credited the director of the movie.

“Indraganti was inspired by a real-life incident that occurred when he was shooting for his film Golconda School a few years ago,” he said.

The question remains is Sammohanam a true story or a remake of the English classic, Notting Hill? The teaser points to the latter.
