Writer and producer Kona Venkat has appealed to the Central Government to make strong Acts to punish those who are committing heinous crimes against women. “I don’t know how to react to the terrible crime that happened a few days ago,” he says, adding, “Over the last three days, I have been looking at the history of convictions for crimes against women and I am surprised that no one has been sentenced to death till now. We need strong laws to punish such culprits.”
Ruing the fact that even the culprits in the Nirbhaya case have still not been punished, he adds, “If you delay justice and do not punish people for their crimes, the others won’t have any fear.”
Kona believes that the Government must act quickly. “We are paying taxes while the government is simply feeding these culprits in jail. Where is the justice?” he asks.
“It is no use tweeting or debating about the incident unless the government hangs the culprits publicly,” he opines, even as he expresses hope that thousands of people came out in support of the victim and her family irrespective of caste and community....
