In most Telugu films, the female lead appears only for songs or in a few scenes, but Lavanya Tripathi is different. From her debut Andala Rakshasi to last year’s Srirasthu Subhamastu, Lavanya has been delivering back to back hits.
Two of her films — Bhale Bhale Magadivoy and Soggade Chinni Nayana — became blockbusters one after the other. Interestingly, in most of these films, Lavanya appeared in a traditional avatar. But the actress now says she wants to change that image.
“You can get typecast quite quickly. Some people say that I can do only traditional roles, but I want to do all kinds of characters. Glamour does not mean wearing short clothes, even your looks can be glamorous,” says Lavanya.
She adds, “I play different characters in each film. Even the body language changes completely. But I am really looking for a break from traditional roles as I am bored of playing the nice girl. I am looking for something different and will announce my new projects soon,” she shares.
However, Lavanya is in no hurry. “I am happy with the way my career is shaping up. From this year onwards, I am going to increase the number of my films as three of them are already releasing in the first half of the year,” she says.
Lavanya is currently working with director Srinu Vaitla for the film Mister opposite Varun Tej. “Srinu sir is an experienced director and there is ease in working with him. I am playing royalty and there is not even a single dull moment in the film,” says the actress about her role. About her co-star Varun Tej, she says, “He is a very good actor. I saw his Kanche, in which he delivered a good
performance.”
In her other film with Sharwanand, Lavanya is playing a college student. “It’s a complete mass entertainer,” she says. The third film is the Tamil-Telugu bilingual thriller Maayavan (in Tamil). “All these films are ready and will release soon,” she says. Not many know that she is also a good dancer.“Till now, I didn’t get a chance to show my skills but I hope this year my wish comes true,” she confides.
The actress doesn’t like socialising much and says she prefers to stay indoors. “If I get time, I watch movies or read books,” says the actress who has also completed a fashion design course. “After my modelling days in Mumbai, I wanted to become a fashion designer, but I got bored and turned to acting. I always discuss my outfits with the director and the designer in all my films”, she reveals.
So, does she see herself in the top league? “Everyone wants to be there and I am on my way. I am lucky that I have options to choose from and believe that good things take time. Success is important and I will reach where I have to when the right time comes,” says Lavanya.
As to whether she is ready to do a special song, the actress replies, “Why not? If the song is good, then I am ready.” Lavanya also reveals that she prepares for all her roles. “I do a lot of homework. When I get the script, I sit alone and think about it and make an image in my mind. I prepare all the lines before they are shot,” she says.
The actress likes Hyderabad very much and wants to settle here. “I am looking for my dream house as I am bored of eating out,” she says, adding that she is a good cook too.
