A leading distributor claims that the much-hyped Tamil film ‘Captain Miller’ would have got better offers if it was released in December but it was deferred for January 2024 and eventually Telugu buyers are shying away. “Telugu films are our priority over dubbed films during Sankranthi festival since Telugu viewers throng theatre to watch star--studded films during festival days,” says a distributor and adds, “No doubt, ‘Captain Miller’ was one of the much-awaited films in Telugu states since Tamil star Dhanush has decent enough fan following in Telugu states. However, with films like ‘Guntur Kaaram’, ‘Eagle’, ‘Hanu-Man’ ‘Naa Saami Ranga’ and others set for Sankrathi, the charm for ‘Captain Miller’ has subsided among buyers. It could fetch mere Rs 5 to 6 crores for Tamil makers and even that would be difficult to recover due to stiff competition,” he points out.
Realising the rising fan following among Telugus, the national award winning actor arrived in Tollywood for ‘Sir’ and worked with Telugu production house and director. “He proved his mettle as a teacher who fights for the cause of poor students and it paid off,” he points out. He plays renegade Captain and his unconventional outlaws execute daring heists in the 1930 and 1940s. “Miller must decide whether to continue running or confront the challenge head on,” he informs.
In fact, Dhanush's terrific performance in ‘Asuran’ fetched him more Telugu fans and the film was remade in Telugu as ‘Narappa’. ‘Dhanush is also doing a pan-India film with director Sekar Kammula and going to rock,” he adds.
Dhanush surely expanded his fan base with different kinds of movies.
