Interview | Audiences decide film’s span, not actors: Bandla Ganesh

The producer talks about his latest release, Degala Babji

Actor Bandla Ganesh turned producer with the Ravi Teja-starrer Anjaneyulu (2009) and his last production was the Jr NTR-starrer Temper (2015). And now he has turned lead actor.

When we asked him why he stopped making films, he replied, “I want to make meaningful films, and not run-of-the-mill ones.” He also said he wasn’t keen to run the risk of the films burning a hole in his pocket. I have been getting many scripts, but I want to make films that can be money spinners, so it naturally takes time,” Ganesh said.

And now, Ganesh has turned lead actor for an upcoming film, Degala Babji, a thriller, directed by Venkat Chandra.

“It’s an experiential film shot with a single actor at a single location. There are around 12 characters in the film, but on screen, you see only me,” explained Ganesh. The film is currently being streamed on OTT platform, Aha.

The film is a remake of Tamil thriller, Oththa Seruppu Size 7. Abhishek Bachchan is starring in the Hindi version. Asked about the inevitable comparisons between the two versions, and Ganesh replied, “It’s the audience who will decide whether the film’s span is big or a small, and not actors.” Director Venkat shared that the film is about how an ordinary man’s family is disturbed by an incident.
