Steamy scenes going overboard on OTTs, says Payal Rajput

Glam diva Payal Rajput is banking on her upcoming movie ‘Mangalavaram’ to bounce back into the reckoning since it is first-of-its kind movie in Indian cinema. She also lauds director Ajay Bhupathi for his dedication and passion. Despite doing a web series, the young diva believes that ‘steamy scenes’ are crossing all the limits on OTTs and it has become difficult to watch web series with parents. She says in a chit chat with BVS Prakash of Deccan Chronicle.

Q: How are you feeling about doing your maiden female-centric movie ‘Mangalavaram’?

A: Although I am playing the protagonist in this gripping saga, it is neither a usual female-centric movie nor am I carrying any heavy baggage on my shoulders. Rather, it has multiple characters who also have equal significance and importance. For now, I can’t share more details about the film. Undoubtedly, it is the first-of-its kind movie in Indian cinema and bound to create ripples.

Q: How is it working with Ajay Bhupathi after ‘RX 100’?

A: It is always amazing to work with him. We were like Tom and Jerry during ‘RX 100’ days and used to indulge in arguments and fights. But now, I have understood him completely and he understands me well. So we had smooth-sailing work during ‘Mangalavaram’. I haven’t seen a director like Ajay who is so dedicated and passionate about his work while his clear vision and clarity has baffled me.

Q: You haven’t taken up much on OTT after web series like ‘3 Roses’ and ‘Anaganaga Oka Athidi’?

A: I am looking for some exciting offers on OTT and not in a hurry. Besides now-a-days steamy scenes are going overboard on digital space. I am unable to watch web content with my father or mother without feeling embarrassed due to overloaded bold stuff. Despite being young, I am sucked into old fashioned ideas and I attribute it to my upbringing and close-knit family.

Q: You seem to have become choosy after a few flops?

A: Though I am getting offers, I don’t want to take up new ones until the release of ‘Mangalavaram’. I would like to spend time on art and craft for the next two months. Rather than just chilling out, I would like to hone new skills to spend my time fruitfully. I am pinning a lot of hopes on ‘Mangalaravam’, as I believe that it will take me to new highs.
