Mahanati is a grand success. Director Nag Ashwin and actress Keerthy Suresh have received a lot of love from the audience. But there is still social media chatter that the film is inaccurate when portraying the lives of Savitri and those around her.
An audio recording on YouTube, in which the person identifies herself as Vijaya, grand daughter of K.V. Choudhary’s brother, disputes a few claims made by the film. Savitri was accompanied to Madras by Choudhary (who was married to Savitri’s aunt).
In the film, the makers show him as a good person. Vijaya feels differently and says in the audio file, “Choudhary is showman and he drinks a lot. When people are talking about Savitri’s drinking habits, I want to say that she was grown up in a household where the elders drink a lot.”
She also accuses Savitri’s daughter Chamundeswari of neglecting her mother. “I feel sad that Chamundeswari cried at a few promotional events. I agree that Savitri garu is her mother.
But what I don’t understand is when Savitri garu was alive, Chamundeswari went to court and fought against her mother to get her house. She didn’t look after her mother when she was alive but now she is getting emotional,” says Vijaya, who accuses the makers of not being factually correct about Savitri’s life. When asked to comment about Vijaya’s accusations, Chamundeswari refused to say anything. “I don’t know who she is and I don’t want to comment on this.” When asked why many people are talking about factual inaccuracies in the film, she says, “I am not interested in it.”
