Praveen to direct Gopichand biopic
It’s raining biopics of sportspersons in filmdom. It started with athletes like Milkha Singh and Paan Singh Tomar and later turned to cricketers including Azhar, Dhoni and Sachin. Now, it’s badminton time. Sources say the biopic on Pullela Gopichand will be on the floors in July.
Sudheer Babu had announced sometime back that he will portray the role of the top badminton player. Guntur Talkies-fame Praveen Sattaru will be directing the movie, which will also be released in Hindi. Earlier, the buzz was that the movie would be directed by Indraganti Mohan Krishna. “Sudheer Babu expects a very good response for the Gopichand biopic in Hindi,” a source added.
Sudheer Babu, who recently made his Bollywood debut through Baaghi, has earned praises for his role. “Frankly I didn’t expect such a great welcome from the Bollywood audience; my Facebook page is flooded with appreciations from people like Taran Adarsh. It has boosted my confidence.
Many actors from the South have acted in Bollywood, only a very few could make it big there, not because they had no talent. I’m learning from them and working based on their experiences. I’m discussing with Namrata and Rana before making each move,” he adds.
On the Gopichand movie, he says, “We are in discussion with a few big Bollywood productions. We will let you know other details once everything is finalised.”
That he was a badminton player before he entered films is an advantage for Sudheer, who is the brother-in-law of super star Mahesh Babu, who helps him with the Hindi release.
