Theatres to close on March 1?

Seems like this time, everyone is serious about the issue.

The South Indian film industry is taking on digital service providers who are supplying digital projectors to all the theatres at high prices.

The South Indian Film Chamber office bearers and Producers Council met in Hyderabad recently and decided to shut theatres in the entire South India from March 1. Initially, it was restricted to only the Telugu states, but now, the entire South has come forward and united on this issue.

The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce President Gemini Kiran and Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce President Muralimohan Rao along with producers Suresh Babu, Shyam Prasad Reddy, Damodara Prasad and Vishal Krishna participated in the meet.

“They want to approach the digital service providers first to see if they are willing to agree to the demands of the theatre owners. Otherwise, theatres are going to shut down from March 1 onwards,” says a source from the meeting.

Seems like this time, everyone is serious about the issue. Interestingly, producer Allu Aravind, who is one of the digital service providers to the many theatres in AP and Telangana, was absent at this meet.
