Recreating a horror thriller!

As per the director, the Hindi version will incorporate a few changes in adapting to the local sensibilities.

Durgavati, the Hindi remake of the Telugu horror thriller Bhaagmathie, stars Bhumi Pednekar. Presented by Bhushan Kumar and Akshay Kumar, and produced by Vikram Malhotra and directed by G. Ashok, Durgavati was officially launched on Saturday.

As per the director, the Hindi version will incorporate a few changes in adapting to the local sensibilities. “Except that the remake will be set against a different backdrop in a city from North India, and a few minor changes, rest is the same,” explains Ashok, admitting that comparisons will arise between the original and the remake.

But comparisons aside, Ashok he is clearly excited to be working with Akshay and Bhumi. “Bhumi is a performer and I couldn’t have cast a better actor,” he says.

He then talks about how he is not bogged down by the pressure to recreate the earlier magic, thanks to Akshay Kumar. “Akshay sir has made me feel comfortable. He and the other members in the unit are pillars of strength. But the biggest advantage I had was that people all over the North watched Bhaagamathie. So the audience are in store for a great content-based film,” says Ashok.
