I Celebrated Eid in Dubai For The First Time: Poorna

Actress Poorna alias Shamna Kasim celebrated Eid with her husband (Shanid Asif Ali) and her 3-month old son besides her mother and father in Dubai. “We were soaked in the festive mood,” says Poona who was last seen in Telugu film “Dasara’ and has two more films on hand. To strike a balance between work and home, she is flying between Hyderabad and Dubai on weekends. In a chat with Deccan Chronicle she shares her future plans.

Q: How was it celebrating Eid in Dubai?

A: Though I had been to Dubai for so many shows, celebrating Eid in one of the most famed religious places was unique and heart-warming. We were soaked in a festive mood. This Eid was very special as we were celebrating with our 3-month old son along with my parents and hubby.

Q: Did you relish the festival delicacies?

A: I am a foodie and relished Korma and Pulao besides Kheer and other dishes. However, my husband introduced me to ‘Mandis’ and it has become one of my favorites these days. The whole month is about doing good deeds and charity and I am sticking to it. Prayers and spending time with family and friends also marked our celebrations.

Q: You were last seen in ‘Dasara’ and now doing a key role in Gopichand’s Telugu film ‘Bheem’?

A: I am getting meaty offers and I am travelling between Hyderabad and Dubai on weekends since I intend to strike a balance between work and home. Thanks to my supporting husband and mother who is taking care of my kid while I am shooting.

For my next schedule for “Bheem’, I am planning to carry my son along with me to India and we will have a gala time. I also want to make a point that married actresses who also become mothers could work without taking a break. In fact, I completed my work for a film, while I was three months pregnant.

Q: How was it working with maverick Tamil director Mysskin in Tamil movies ‘Devil’ and ‘Pisasu 2’?

A: Working with such a multi-talented man like Mysskin is like a boon for me. In both films, ‘Devil’ and ‘Pisasu 2’, I have to unlearn and learn new things. It was like starting from scratch for me. Mysskin is an encyclopedia of world cinema and I cherish moments working with him. I am not playing a ghost in “Pisasu’, although people believe so.
