Kochi welcomes Khasakian legend

The event in Kochi will be held under the aegis of Rotary Kochi United.

The much-loved play Khasakkinte Ithihasam is all set to enthral audiences in Kochi next month. The play, an adaptation of O. V. Vijayan's classic novel of the same name, will be staged at Sacred Heart College Ground, Thevara, on April 21, 22 and 23.

The play, which is said to be one of the forces behind revival of theatre in Kerala, is known to have performed in packed venues across the country. The event in Kochi will be held under the aegis of Rotary Kochi United.

What has made the play an instant hit among theatre enthusiasts is its use of scenography during the performance with the help of installations and videos. The 3.25-hour-long drama is known for providing the audience a mind-blowing experience of Thasrak, the place where the novel was set.

The theatre adaptation of the novel was first performed at Thrikkarippur in September 2015. The play, written and directed by Deepan Shivaraman, Associate Professor, Performing Arts, Ambedkar University, Delhi, is produced by Thrikkarippur KMK Kalasamithi, which has to its credit several plays including Poovanpazham of Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer. As many as 40 characters created by O.V Vijayan will come on stage. The cast include Rajeevan Velloor, C. K. Sunil, K. V. Krishnan Master, Vijayan Akkalath, Manoj Annoor, P. C. Gopalakrishnan, Kumar Pariyacheri, Rajesh Karyath, Vijesh Muttathu, Dr. Tharima, Sreeja, Aswathy and Balamani.

Office-bearers of the Rotary Kochi United informed that the proceeds of the show will go towards purchasing equipment for the Reconstructive Surgery Department of the Ernakulam General Hospital. Tickets can be booked on www.bookmyshow.com.
