Spin and dance sequence
Spin Dance Studio held its ninth annual show in the city on Sunday, and played to a packed audience.
Studio founder Balaji B. said, “After so many years of providing top quality dance education and certification, we are now excited about exploring performance itself in more ways. We believe that theatre, music and dance are a complementary, and we have especially enjoyed encouraging our littlest students to explore them all, through a new certified course that teaches all three.”
This year’s show featured theatrical elements for the first time, and combined dance, music and theatre seamlessly. Candy World (featuring dancers aged 3-5), Sea World (dancers aged 6-9), the Snow White-inspired Enchanted Forest (featuring dancers aged 8-13) and Around the World In 80 Steps (six sequences, each highlighting an international dance style) were among the items that enthralled the audience. The show also focussed on rigorous technical styles such as jazz and ballet.
Earlier, RJ Syed kickstarted the proceedings by getting the audience to loosen up and jive to three Bollywood numbers.
Spin Dance Studio has students ranging from the age of 3-1/2 to 60. It has four branches in Chennai and offers courses for both kids and adults in ballet, hip hop, contemporary, Bollywood, jazz and various other dance and fitness forms. It also regularly holds workshops featuring celebrities.
According to a press release, the Studio has the highest number of students in the country certified by the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing, Australia. Spin’s was also the Indian team with the most number of wins at the 2019 CSTD Asia Pacific Dance Competition held in Bangkok, with over 90% of team members securing a trophy or medal in their respective categories.
