Nani-Starrer Gets Strong Opening In Telugu States Despite Mixed Response
Nani’s action adventure The Paradise, which hit theatres amid considerable pre-release hype, is reportedly off to a strong start in the Telugu states.
According to a distributor, the film collected around Rs 10 crore in share from its premiere shows in the Telugu states. It is said to have added another Rs 10 crore through regular shows, taking its reported day-one share to around Rs 20 crore.
“If these numbers hold, it is a record opening for Nani and a very good start for the film,” the distributor said.
However, the film’s content appears to be receiving a mixed response. The story, which deals with caste discrimination and the struggle for identity, has reportedly failed to make the desired impact, with some viewers pointing to a disjointed screenplay, over-the-top action and lengthy crowd-pleasing sequences.
“The film is receiving mixed responses from day one, while social media has been flooded with negative comments,” the distributor added.
According to the distributor, advance bookings for the second and third days have also reportedly seen cancellations at some centres. In a few theatres in Vizag, there were even instances of audiences seeking refunds during the interval, the distributor claimed.
“Director Srikanth Odela appears to have disappointed audiences by attempting to mix the freedom struggle, revolutionaries, feudal elements and several other themes without maintaining a cohesive narrative. The film seems to have faltered on multiple fronts,” the distributor observed.
