Telugu States: Kantara Chapter 1 Clocks ₹6 Cr Share on Day One

Despite boycott calls on social media, the supernatural thriller benefited from strong pre-release hype and the backing of leading production-distribution house Mythri Movie Makers.

Riding on the massive success of Kantara (2022), actor-director Rishab Shetty returned with its much-anticipated prequel Kantara Chapter 1, which opened to decent numbers in the two Telugu states.

According to trade sources, the film collected around ₹11 crore gross and ₹6 crore share on its opening day. “The film had minimal turnout for the early morning shows, but picked up strongly from the matinee onwards, performing well across varied theatres,” a distributor revealed.

Despite boycott calls on social media, the supernatural thriller benefited from strong pre-release hype and the backing of leading production-distribution house Mythri Movie Makers. “Rishab earned a following in Telugu states with Kantara, and with this sequel, he is expected to expand his fan base further. His rugged, muscled look fits the warrior’s role perfectly,” the distributor added.

In 2022, Kantara had rocked the Telugu box office, and naturally, the prequel was sold at high prices in the region. “Hombale Films have done smart business banking on the hype, but the coming days will determine the film’s long-term run,” trade experts concluded.
