Manveer Gurjar from Haryana beat contestants Bani and Lopamudra Raut to emerge as the Bigg Boss 10 winner on Sunday night. He, however, is yet to come to terms with the fact that he was declared the winner. In an interview, he talks to us about his win. Edited excerpts from the interview:
Manveer, you have achieved the impossible by defeating celebrity contestant, Bani, to win the Bigg Boss 10 trophy...
It’s shocking! I wasn’t even sure if I could win against someone like Bani J. I am an ordinary man, and I don’t have a fan following like she does. The trophy belongs to the people who voted for me. I’m on top of the world!
Were you, at any point, tempted to press the buzzer and walk away with Rs 10 lakh?
I wasn’t there for the money or fame — so I wasn’t tempted in any way. Manu, on the other hand, had been discussing since the last few days about how he would take the money and walk away if such an offer presents itself, and he actually did it. I wasn’t surprised at all when he hit the buzzer, but was a little disappointed, as I believed that he had a fair chance of winning. I guess I was proved wrong in the end and Manu’s move was a smart one.
You made a truce with your father on the show. We saw you breaking down after that. Was it overwhelming, since you always had differences with your father?
I am not a sanskari guy. I am an emotional and short-tempered person. My father and I have a generation gap. I don’t think like him and he doesn’t think like me. So, we had our share of differences. It was an emotional moment for me when I made the truce with my father. The tears rolling down my cheeks said it all, I think.
You and Manu were inseparable and then Mona came in between. Was she the twist in your friendship with Manu?
I never considered Mona as a bone of contention between Manu and me. Yes, she was closer to Manu than she was to me, but she never came in between our friendship. In fact, the three of us got along really well and were called M3.
Even though you insist that you are a short-tempered man, you came across as a calculated, calm and patient player. Was that what helped you win the show?
I was a very angry man when I entered the house but situations inside changed me and made me calm and patient. My confidence also helped me keep the hope of winning the show alive. I had friends, yes, but no one was my enemy in the house. I had my share of arguments with people, but that’s about it.
Rs 40 lakh as prize money is a huge amount. What are you going do with it?
I have handed over the trophy and the money to my father — he will decide what to do with it. He intends to donate half of the money to charity.
