Armed with a degree in journalism, she started her career as a journalist and worked for a regional private news channel. She then switched her expertise for the field of event management but eventually chose entertainment. Amrutha Ramamoorthi, is now a prominent face on Kannada TV, known for her role as Vachana in the serial Kulavadha. She has even acted in a Kannada movie which is up for release. The journalist turned actress speaks with Bengaluru Chronicle about her real passion, and her dream to act in more prominent films, try her luck as a playback singer, and much more.
“This is my fourth Kannada serial, and I’m also simultaneously working for a Telugu serial too. After my graduation, I began as a journalist for a news channel and then took up other responsibilities. I had never dreamt of being an actress. In fact, the long distance from my residence to the office made me quit work and this is when one of my neighbours suggested that I try my hand in an entertainment channel,” says Amrutha Ramamoorthi.
The actress, who made it through the audition opted for this career as her full-time profession. She replaced another actress as Vachana in the popular serial Kulavadhu on Colors Kannada TV channel. “Meanwhile, I did a film titled H/34 Pallavi Talkies, which is based on a real incident which occurred inside a theatre. H/34 signifies the seat number inside a theatre. I took it up for its unique script which gave me enough space to showcase my acting skills. Though it is based on a single real incident, the director, Srinivas Gowda has webbed a fantastic horror thriller. This film is ready for release," says Amrutha, who adds that as Vachana on the small screen has brought her recognition, she is keen on doing good projects in future both on small and big screen.
The film H/34 Pallavi Talkies is loosely based on an unfortunate incident when a man watching the horror film The Conjuring died inside the theatre in 2013. Though I never planned a career in acting, I would secretly re-enact the scenes whenever I was alone. I learnt my skills while working for the serials. I honestly feel that working in serials is always an added advantage for an amateur artiste and a good platform to understand the nuances of acting and this is why most of the filmmakers prefer serial artistes, as it’s easy to handle them than a newcomer,” she says.
However, Amrutha feels that filmmakers are sceptical about actresses with naturally curly hair. “One of the prominent requirements of being a film actress is to look good and have straight and silky hair. They consider curly hair as a negative sign and most do not prefer to cast an actress with naturally curly hair but I am glad such things are slowly changing. I am hoping for more meaningful roles in the future and would like to break away from the monotonous characters,” the actress shares. Apart from acting, Amrutha who is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer feels bad as she has stopped practising her classical dance. Before signing off, the curly-haired beauty reveals that she also aspires to become a playback singer. Why not, after all, she has learnt Carnatic and light music too!
