The EGGcidental heroine

The pretty Mangaluru hudugi is straddling both television and film with elan.

After garnering great acclaim for Aramane, her debut teleserial, this traditional beauty surfaced on the silver screen with an ‘egg story’. Following her debut movie Ondu Motteya Kathe, she returned to the television after her first role in Aramane ended with an accident, for the mega serial Nandini. Now, she is set to shine in her second movie with a special story produced by Rakshit Shetty and Pushkara Mallikarjunaiah. Actress Shreya Anchan who shares the screen with Diganth, Ashwin Rao Pallaki in Katheyondu Shuruvagide, which is being directed by Senna Hegde, speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle about her ‘accidental’ journey so far, and much more.

“So far, it has been a wonderful journey ever since my first teleserial Aramane which earned great appreciation. However, my character in the serial — Smitha was ended in an accident, and eventually replaced by another artiste. By then, Ondu Motteya Kathe directed by Raj B. Shetty happened. The credit goes to the movie which helped recognise me as an artiste. I have also recently wrapped up playing another special character in the mega serial Nandini. I am now awaiting the release of Katheyondu Shuruvagide, which was again a great working experience,” says Shreya Anchan.

Unlike a few actors who do not wish to return to the small screen after making it onto the silverscreen, especially after delivering a success, Shreya feels that it is only good work that matters, irrespective of small or big screen. “All I wish for is that my work is recognised. I do not mind playing good characters in both TV and movies. Yes, there are some differences between the two, but it depends on how an artiste takes it up,” she adds.

Hailing from Mangaluru, the Tulu lass is also a dancer. After acting in a couple of Tulu dramas and Tulu films, she landed with Aramane. What’s interesting and purely coincidental, is that many of her characters have had abrupt ends. In Aramane, she is replaced after the character she essays has a serious accident wherein her face is totally injured beyond recognition. In her Tulu drama and movie, the characters she played have also died in the end.

Ask her about this coincidence and she smiles saying, “I don’t know but it’s strange that most of the characters I have played in the past have either died in the end or exist for a brief period, even in Nandini serial. But, in Katheyondu Shuruvagide, it is about different age groups’ and their perception about love and relationships. It was great working with a talented team, right from director Senna Hegade, to cinematographer Sreeraj and Sachin who have scored music. The music has been wonderful and has topped the charts.”

A semi-classical dancer is yet to take up other projects as she is awaiting the release of her movie. Though she is busy practising dance, has a couple of modelling assignments as well.
