Social media bills the telly star

Meet the new tech-savvy television star who is a pro in staying in touch with the audience...

There is an old saying about how everything has a good and bad side. The technological advancements today are racing ahead with new means of sophisticated communication available to any tech-savvy individual. If the common man predominantly uses it to connect with their loved ones, the celebrities have taken it to a new level, in the manner in which they keep in touch with their fans through social media. While the media focuses heavily on movies, and stars, the small screen has also hopped onto the tech-savvy bandwagon, and has got a shot in the arm. A majority of artists from the Kannada television industry are hooked to their social media handles, connecting with audiences and their huge fan following. Apart from a counted few bad fan experiences and mischief mongering, small screen stars love going live, updating about their acting careers, projects and daily routines. Bengaluru Chronicle reports on the tech-savvy telly star.

“Everything is instant these days. At times, most aspects involving our work and personal life are made public on multiple social media platforms, even before it comes to our knowledge. However, most of these are half-baked or false as these updates are usually done in a hurry. I was never a tech-savvy person but when I kept getting queries from close friends about information floating on social media, I decided to do it myself to ensure clarity and authenticity. Since then, it has largely helped me stay connected with all those who follow my work. Once in a while, I connect with my fans live and it feels great that there are people who truly appreciate one’s work,” says telly actress Priyanka.

Another actress who did not wanted to be named disagrees about sharing personal snippets. “Though I like to stay in touch with my fans, I do it by posting things only related to work, unlike many who share everything which eventually invites criticism. Also, some people with bad intentions try to create problems, react obnoxiously which is hurtful. They forget that we are also humans. My suggestion is to ignore such people, and resist reacting to everything and everyone.”

Director Praveen feels social media should be used as an extended tool to enhance one’s professional career rather than indulging in personal details. “There is a line which neither celebrity nor fan should cross. If this is maintained, it is great. It has become a huge trend these days, and it is not just movie stars but even TV personalities that take time out to directly interact with their audiences live. It helps boost a project as the audience feels connected to the characters they adore, and eventually, it again leads back to the tricky part in the television market, which is TRPs!” Collectively, experts feel that over-usage or misuse of any media can cause irreparable damage if it is not done with good intentions.
