I am looking for variety: Stephy Leon
Actor Stephyleon – she likes to keep it as one word, though Leon is her second name -- kicked off her acting career in television doing a double role for the horror serial Agniputhri. It was a challenging role, but it played a crucial role in moulding the actor in Stephy. After a short while, she is back to the mini screen in a dual role. She is quite excited when talking about Ranjini Moorthy and Bhadra, her two characters in Sagaram Sakshi, a series broadcast in Surya TV at 7 pm.
“Since I have prior experience, acting as Ranjini Moorthy and Bhadra was not a hard task for me. And my director manages schedules in such a way that I need to play only one character on a given day. Combination scenes are rare,” says Stephyleon.
“This is my fifth serial. The two characters are not similar. Ranjini is an innocent soul and the blue-eyed girl of the family. A simple woman, she loves dancing. She is a person who is ready to sacrifice anything for her family. Bhadra is just the opposite. She is a new-age woman and ambitious. The coming episodes will reveal more about Bhadra.” Who is Stephy’s favourite — Ranjini or Bhadra? “Both Ranjini and Bhadra are dear to me. If I like one character more, I won’t be able to do justice to the other,” says Stephy.
Stephy is receiving good responses to her new roles. What makes her happier is that youngsters also watch her on screen. “There is a belief that only elderly women watch serials, which is wrong. I have met many young people who like serials. I am happy about that,” smiles Stephy, who is choosy when it comes to serials. “I am looking for variety, hence, I am selective. All characters I have done so far differ from each other. Agniputhri was a horror series. In Manasaveena, I was a teenage girl. In Ishtam, I performed as a mature woman who got married to an elderly man.”
Her husband is her pillar of support. He helps her choose the right character. “I seek his opinion before committing to a project. He makes me understand my character deeply. He motivates me and gives me suggestions,” says Stephy. Will she act in movies? “Movies are coming. But, I am in no hurry. Now my focus is fully on Sagaram Sakshi,” says Stephy.
