Plans to launch original content in Telugu
HYDERABAD: As part of its efforts to expand the market share of its OTT platform, Zee5 has decided to sharpen its focus on the southern market, said one of its top officials.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle.com, Punit Misra, president – content and international markets, ZEE Entertainment Enterprises said Zee5 will be launching 11 OTT specific series this year. The new offerings, he said, will encompass different genres like thrillers, comedy, drama to romance.
"South is an important market for us and we have been consistent in expanding our presence in this market across languages from the very beginning," he said.
While RRR’s launch on Zee5 has almost doubled its Telugu language subscription base, Misra said the orginal content will play a great role in adding more subscribers.
The official said their efforts to expand subscriber base bore fruit as the share of subscribers from the Hindi market has declined to 50 per cent from 70 per cent.
Stating that the company's aim is to become No. 1 in the Telugu market, Misra said his officials have studied the Telugu markets and more content will come in the coming months.
