Josh in her haute steps

The actress talks about marriage, her daughter and her upcoming TV serial.

Take a quick look at her Twitter profile, and Urvashi Sharma’s life seems like one big vacation. Only recently, the actress shared a picture of her dining with husband, industrialist-turned-actor, Sachiin Joshii in a premium airline, travelling in style.

The model-turned-actress admits that life has become flamboyant after her big fat wedding. She loves her vacations as much as the next person, but says that one of the most memorable ones she has ever had was when Sachiin whisked her off to Maldives when they were still dating, too woo her. “I remember when we were dating and I was still unsure about what I was getting into, he told me we were taking off to Maldives. I thought he was joking, except he wasn’t,” she gushes.

The jet-setting couple has been all around the world, says Urvashi, but London is where her heart resides. “London is so beautiful, so stylish, one could have a second home here; it’s my favourite vacationing destination. I go there with one bag and I return with four! However, I love Dubai too. We own a villa at Palm Jumeirah and it’s so much like Mumbai, it feels like home to me.”

The actress, best known for her role in 2007’s Naqaab explains that she comes from a rather humble background and has been very particular about her relationships, but Sachiin’s persistence made her fall head over heels in love. “Sachiin met me at a product launch and the very next day, he messaged me that he was in love with me,” the actress says with mock shock. “He sent me 50 bouquets of flowers with personalised messages, sent me my favourite dishes from some of the best restaurants around, but more importantly, he offered me commitment,” she gushes.

Life’s been very different for Urvashi, who took a hiatus from movies post marriage. “I was busy travelling the world with my husband, being the chotti madam of my household, but more importantly, I was busy enjoying my married status for so long,” she says. A typical day would begin as late as 11 for Urvashi, who decided to take keen interest in her husband’s spa and gym businesses. “I didn’t really need to work,” she shrugs, adding, “Shopping would take up my time. I’d have designers and brands visiting me at home nearly every day.”

Her older sister Sucheta Sharma however, doesn’t share the same graph. The successful runway model hasn’t let go of the ramp after marriage. Were they competition to each other on the ramp? “Hardly. She is only a year older than me but she has been more like a mother to me. We were in the same profession but our careers were on a very different tangent. Sucheta is much taller, so she did well on the ramp, while I wanted to get into acting. Although, at times when we auditioned for the same role, we were just happy that the assignment was bagged by one Sharma sister!”

Pregnancy and motherhood changed Urvashi’s priorities. When she was pregnant with daughter Samaira, her family placed her under house arrest for fear of her safety and health. “I’d spend my time painting and practicing candle making, “ she sighs, adding, “I still paint when I get the chance to. Most pictures of Gods at home have been painted by me.”

The actress is currently busy playing the role in a new TV serial called Amma, in which she has shed her glamorous look and is essaying the role of a underworld kingpin. “I’m very fond of diamonds,” says Urvashi. “Most jewellery I own are diamonds, I have a weakness for them. For my role, I ended up buying gold jewellery as the artificial metal would give me a rash. I’m excited to be playing this role. With marriage and pregnancy, my body has undergone tremendous change and I have no qualms about accepting my body. This role was an interesting and challenging one, and the only reason I chose to make a come back.”
