Neeli girl's tryst with telly

The city girl who loved dance has been getting some good roles on the small screen.

One of the world’s oldest sayings — a mother is a child’s first and best teacher, is something that this small screen actress holds very dear. She took up acting for the simple reason — her mother dreamt that her daughter would become an actor, and insisted that she should not limit herself to just dance. Actress Kavyashree N, who plays one of the leads in the popular tele-serial on Star Suvarna Neeli which revolves around a supernatural soul possessed inside a doll, speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle on how she ended up taking up acting and more.

With a keen interest in art, Kavya started learning various forms of dance. It was her mother who watched her closely and suggested that she should explore the performing arts more. “It’s my mother who has always pushed me to learn new things. Even my teachers and my mother would say that I was good at expressing emotions, and this helped me gain confidence. I started giving auditions for TV shows. It was Durga which helped me further learn the art.

Though I started as a supporting character, it helped me understand the complexities about facing the camera. I would sit next to the director and learn the technicalities which helped me a great deal in my future portrayals,” Kavya adds.

The Nelamangala girl claims to be a good painter. She shares that she used to do a lot of pencil sketches early on, but now with her serials and college, she has hardly had time to indulge in artistic pursuits. A student of science, who is currently doing her B.Sc at Ammanni College, Kavya shares that apart from her classmates and teachers, no one knew anything about her before her TV ventures. Now, things have changed drastically and she gets loads of attention.
After appearing in Durga, she ventured into another soap titled Amma before her big break with Neeli.

“It’s been more than a year with Neeli, wherein the saga revolves around a possessed soul in the form of a doll. It’s been fun to act with new storylines rather than the regular ones. Most importantly, it has all sorts of emotions webbed around it. Though in reality, I have never experienced the presence of such a soul or ghost, I do believe that if there are good things in life, there might be evil around us too,” she smiles.

She plans to take up teaching in the future and hopes for a good enough opportunity to do so. She also wishes to explore more avenues in acting, even films.
