Engineer'ed for great success
She hails from a modern family in a pretty small town in Gulbarga. She grew up playing tennis, representing her district and missed playing at the national level due to board exams. After her popular avatar as an anchor/host for local TV channels in Gulbarga district, she rose to become a model and then became Ms Gulbarga, Ms Karnataka and even competed for Ms South India. Priyanka Chincholi, is the new ‘Goddess’ on the Kannada small screen, as she plays goddess Parvathi on Star Suvarna’s Hara Hara Mahadeva, a mythological mega serial. Parvathi speaks exclusively with Bengaluru Chronicle on how this role has changed her life – from being a tomboyish girl to homely person.
“After my initial days of hosting various programmes on local TV channels in Gulbarga, it led me to take up modelling and then eventually to acting. While I still continued my studies, I took up a Kannada movie titled Bill Gates, which is a comedy starring Chikkanna and others just for fun. In fact, I had no interest in doing TV serials but someone from the TV channel was impressed with my portfolio and convinced me to give the audition for the serial. What happened after is a huge transformation in my life,” says Priyanka Chincholi.
The actress further adds that in the movie Bill Gates she plays a complete ly opposite character to what she does on the small screen. “I play the role of a foreign lady. Even in real life, I ‘was’ a tomboyish girl from a modern family. I had very little knowledge about God and Goddesses, but after I started playing Parvathi, I have understood what a daughter means to a family, and being part of someone else’s family and raising children have been truly changing phenomena to me. I just love playing the mother’s role. I know, I am just 23, and I have started to take care of the children who play the three kids of Parvathi. They call me ‘amma’ even off screen. It’s lovely. Now, I want to be like ‘Parvathi’ when I get married. In the mythology, she has no in-laws,” she smiles.
About her interest in sports, she adds that she took up tennis at an early age and soon started representing Gulbarga and missed a golden chance to represent Karnataka at the national level. “I had the opportunity to play for Karnataka but I had my board exams and hence I missed it.”
She is currently in her second year of M. Tech. “My parents have been very supportive and my mother always wanted me to become an engineer. Now, it’s my turn to fulfill her dream,” she says, adding that after serial and Kannada films, she wanted to do a Bollywod movie. But, after hearing Kiccha Sudeep speaking his heart in an interview about how many ignore the real pain of an artiste, she now hopes to share screen space with him at least for once the big screen.
She also recollects how audience has showered love upon her. “Most of the time, they ask me to bless them as it’s their exam or if they are facing some problem. I feel so humbled. I have been lucky to be a part of the serial.” She even hopes to do something for animals like helping build shelter houses in the future.
Wishing this young artiste all the very best.
