It’s a truth universally acknowledged that women are now reigning all of television. With more substantial roles and carrying whole series on their shoulders, they’re doing it all. Here are a few of the best TV series with female leads that you cannot miss.
How to get away with murder:
A criminal defense lawyer, Annalise Keating, teaches a group of students from which she picks the brightest to work alongside her. They then get caught up in a murder plot that changes their lives dramatically. The wonderful Viola Davis became the first African-American woman to win an Emmy for her lead role. Watch it for the classic Shonda Rhimes brand of drama.
Orphan Black:
Tatiana Maslany plays several clones in this Canadian sci-fi series that has gained huge success. The story revolves around Sarah Manning who assumes the identity of Elizabeth Childs after she witnesses this identical woman’s suicide. Do not miss this series that raises several questions about the future and Tatiana’s impeccable delivery of several characters.
Veep:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus was known till very recently as a Seinfeld sidekick, but not anymore. Veep is a political comedy based on fictional Vice President of the US, Selina Meyers who goes on to become the President. The show and the actress have both received critical acclaim — and it only keeps getting better. It’s great to see Julia finally come into her own as a comedienne.
Jessica Jones:
All us women Marvel fans can finally rest in peace. Jessica Jones, a web television series starring Krysten Ritter makes our dreams of a fierce female superhero come true. Jessica starts a detective agency after hanging up her superhero boots and is anything but a light-hearted typical Marvel universe stereotype. Its dark undertones and noir style have earned praises from critics to masses alike.
