As New Girl comes to a close...
All New Girl lovers just can’t get enough of the on-screen romance between Hannah Simone (as Cece) and Max Greenfield (as Schmidt). As the popular sitcom is getting ready for a curtain call, Hannah speaks about what she thinks made the show click, representation in the film industry and more.
Q How do you feel knowing when the show ends?
Yeah, we are in our Season 6, and we are closer to the end. We all have grown up together, so we are not ready.
Q what is it about Cece and Schmidt do you think that works?
I think what has been compelling about the two is that Liz Merriweather really created an honest relationship, I feel like she addressed the fact that for a lot of people and most people don’t want to talk about it, that physical intimacy was easy for them, emotional intimacy was very hard and that’s not what we are taught in the stereotype of relationships, so she addressed that, owned that.
Q How important do you think representation is in entertainment?
Representation is so important; I never thought I would have a place in this industry, especially on a mainstream American sitcom. When I grew up, I never saw anyone like me and I remember when Liz Merriweather cast me, I went to her and told her “Wow what you did is so cool you have no idea.” I am half-Indian, half-Greek and when I see little Latina girls, Arabic girls looking at me on TV they see a reflection, that to me is change, its progress.
