Small screen fans are in for a treat, this weekend with a series of special shows lined up for the festive season.

It’s the start of a new year as per the Hindu calendar, and the season of festivals kick-starts with the celebrations of Chandramana Ugadi on Saturday. With a big festival right around the corner, the small screen audience are in for a treat with several special programmes and shows lined up to make Ugadi more special on the occasion. Starting from classical songs on the festival (including the iconic one from Kulavadhu released in 1963) which is penned by one of the greatest poet of Kananda — D R Bendre’s Yuga Ugaadi Kaledaru, Ugaadi Marali Barutide… to musical events and special programmes are scheduled for the viewers.

On Udaya TV, renowned playback singer Rajesh Krishnan along with Anuradha Bhat will feature in the musical event which was held in Shivamogga recently. They will be performing hit numbers from the 70s and the 80s. TV actors Nithyaram and Jayashree will also be performing during the show. Later, the channel has an exclusive show titled Halliyalli Ugadi, where various artistes from the popular tele-serials of the channel will take part in a unique game show and interact with the villagers and even binge on the festival savouries prepared for them. Do catch them all from 12.30 pm on Saturday.

On the other hand, Zee Kannada welcomes auspiciousness and the festive fervour, with a grand celebration through Ugadi Swara Sambhrama. The event will bring together the musical talent of the Kannada industry. The programme will be telecasted between 8 pm and 11 pm on April 6 and 7.

Hosted by Anushree, the programme will witness the eclectic presence of leading musicians including Arjun Janya, Rajesh Krishnan, Vijaya Prakash and Maha Guru Hamsalekha. The performances of the talented Sa Re Ga Ma Pa prodigies from Season 15 and Season 16 including Keerthan Holla, Nihal Tauro, Vijeth, Hanumantha, Chennappa and Sunil will be the highlight of the programme.

Vijay Prakash, Arjun Janya and Rajesh Krishnan will also be performing for the audiences. There is also a special announcement on the occasion, so stay tuned for more this weekend.

Star Suvarna as well is all set to bring in Ugadi with a new thought. The channel is paying a tribute to the legendary heroines of Kannada cinema by hosting the mega event called Star Mahanati.

Yesteryear Stars Bharathi, Jayanthi, National Award-winning performers Tara and Priyamani, trend-setter star Priyanka Upendra, today’s starlets Haripriya, Ragini Dwivedi, Rachitha Ram were felicitated on Star Mahnati Stage. Industry luminaries like Dwarakish, Rajesh, Raghavendra Rajkumar, Youth Icons golden star Ganesh, Murali and DIG D. Roopa, film directors Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, Nagabharana, Chethan, Santhu felicitated the actresses for their priceless contributions.

Small screen stars Krishi Tapanda, Madhubala, Apoorva Bharadwaj, Ashwini, Raksha Holla and others paid individual tributes to the legendary heroines by performing the songs enacted by the stars. It goes on air on Saturday at 6.30 pm as a special event on the day of Ugadi.

Colors Kannada, along with its popular tele-serials and reality shows, has lined up a few special shows including an appearance from the Paddehuli film team where the makers and the actors talk about the legendary Kannada actor Sahasasimha late Dr. Vishnuvardhan this weekend at 9.30 pm.
