Kudla's journey to a palace

This Mangaluru-bred actress talks about overcoming obstacles and bagging her first serial, Aramane, which has made her very popular.

This Kudla (Mangaluru) girl, who is a semi-classical dancer made her acting debut while she had just started her college education, debuting in a Tulu film titled Jai Tulunadu. Her much-appreciated dancing skills led her to the small screen where she is presently residing in a popular palace for more than a year!

Do not be confused— Sheya Anchan’s first TV venture is titled Aramane meaning palace, which is one of the popular daily soaps on Udaya TV. The show has garnered the highest ratings and features senior actors including Sandalwood veteran Ja Jagadesh. Shreya who later made her debut in a Kannada film is back with another tale of an egg —- Ondu Motteya Kathe. She is also acting in a Telugu serial and also in a short film. Shreya talks about her palace, egg’s tale in short. She shares:

“Though I never aspired to become an actress, I was always fascinated with dancing. I practiced various forms of dancing from classical to free style. While I was studying in my second year PUC, I had the opportunity to work in my first film in Tuli which was all about our native place. Thereafter, I was approached for the serial Aramane as they were in search of a new face with classical dancing skills. It has senior actors from whom I learnt a great deal. I will also be acting in my second film which is ‘not’ all about an egg. It is something very special where I play one of the four heroines,” says Shreya.

Hailing from the coastal region, it was never an easy task to make it to the world of entertainment . Even her parents were initially worried about her when she chose acting as a full time career. “Firstly, I struggled for some time while speaking Kannada as the dialect here varies from my region. However, I passed the initial hurdles and then got accustomed to the working culture in the industry. Now, I just cannot think about anything beyond entertainment field,” she quips.

About the special tale of an egg, the actress reveals, “It is unique and I was comfortable because almost all the artistes and technicians are from the coastal region. It was a great learning experience.” Apart from acting in the serial, Shreya has also signed another Telugu serial and even a short film which is based on a relevant topic. “The short film is about the problems a married women faces while living with her husband. The story is very different. I am looking forward to it in the coming days,” Shreya says adding that she hopes to portray challenging and unique characters in films wherein she can exhibit her acting skills. Before getting back to shooting in her ‘palace’, she shares that her favourite hobby is to read when she gets time from the shoot.
