"Tamannaah Has Guts To Take On Diverse Roles,” Says Hemanth Madhukar

Director Hemanth Madhukar calls it “a smooth and perfect transition” and praises her versatility.

After portraying a semi-divine ‘Aghori’ in Odela 2, acclaimed actress Tamannaah Bhatia is switching gears with her sizzling dance number ‘Nasha’ in the Hindi film Raid 2. Director Hemanth Madhukar calls it “a smooth and perfect transition” and praises her versatility.

“Very few actresses have the guts to explore such contrasting genres and still leave a mark, and particularly a female aghori needs loads of confidence, and she pulled it off, going by positive response for her looks and trailer,” he says.

Hemanth hails Tamannaah as a “dancing sensation,” pointing to her impressive track record—from the viral hit ‘Kaavaala’ to ‘Aaj Ki Raat’, and now ‘Nasha’. “She’s a striking blend of talent, glamour, and dance prowess. After years of being cast in routine glam-doll roles, she’s now consciously choosing more varied and impactful characters,” he explains.
Drawing comparisons, Hemanth highlights how leading ladies like Anushka Shetty and Nayanthara have sustained long, successful careers by balancing star-studded roles with solo-heroine projects. “Anushka had Arundhati and Bahubali, while Nayanthara played Shah Rukh Khan’s love interest in Jawan and also portrayed a goddess in Mookuthi Amman,” he notes. “Earlier, actresses like Vijayashanti and the late Soundarya also broke the mold with powerful performances in films like Kartavyam and Ammoru, alongside their commercial outings.”
He points out that while many actresses express dissatisfaction with limited screen time in hero-centric films, few are willing to shoulder a movie on their own. “It takes courage and confidence to break away from being typecast as the lover or the wife. Some complain about ‘four scenes and four songs’, yet hesitate to dive into meatier, genre-defying roles,” he observes. “But those who’ve dared to challenge the norm are the ones thriving and standing out.”
