Young actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s Re-Release Plan Backfires, who is basking in the massive success of DJ Tillu and Tillu Square, seems to have miscalculated with his latest move. Attempting to capitalize on his rising stardom, he rebranded and re-released his old film Krishna and His Leela under the new title It's Complicated. However, Telugu audiences weren’t convinced and largely ignored the film’s theatrical release on February 14.
“Siddhu may have assumed that his earlier film, which originally premiered on OTT during the COVID era, would now find success in theaters given his newfound fame. He even actively participated in promotions, but the strategy failed to generate interest,” says a leading distributor.
Produced by Rana Daggubati, the film was marketed as a bold, contemporary story and was released in about 50 theaters across the two Telugu states on Valentine’s Day. However, the gamble of bringing an OTT hit to the big screen didn’t pay off. “Despite Siddhu’s presence, the film failed to attract even a minimal audience, managing to collect just ₹7-8 lakhs on its opening day. Sustaining it in theaters will be a challenge,” the distributor added.
On the bright side, Siddhu's upcoming projects, Telusu Kada and Jack, are generating buzz and could further solidify his position in the industry. However, as he continues his ascent to stardom, missteps like this could dent his growing reputation.
