Shruti Haasan Plays A New-Age Pragmatic Role Says Director Pavan Sadineni
Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan and their relationship in the film, the director remains tight-lipped.

Young director Pavan Sadineni has designed a unique yet relatable character for actress Shruti Haasan in his upcoming film Akasamlo Oka Tara. Speaking about her role, the director says Shruti will be seen as a modern, new-age woman with a positive outlook and a pragmatic approach to life.
“Shruti Haasan plays a contemporary girl who wants to live life on her own terms. There is nothing bold about the character,” Pawan clarifies, addressing speculation after the first-look poster showed her smoking a cigarette. “It is simply a reflection of today’s mindset, not meant to sensationalise anything,” he adds.
The director chose not to reveal much about the character, stating that the film is still in the making and more details will be disclosed as work progresses. He also points out that Shruti, who has enjoyed major success in Telugu cinema with hits like Krack, Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya, was keen on taking up something different after a brief break.
“Probably, she was looking for exciting roles. When we approached her and narrated the story, she immediately liked it. Akasamlo Oka Tara is a breezy entertainer, and working with her has been quite interesting,” Pawan says.
On Shruti being paired opposite Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan and their relationship in the film, the director remains tight-lipped. “You will have to wait and watch how their equation evolves on screen,” he says.
Interestingly, while Shruti Haasan is making her return to Tollywood, her father, legendary actor Kamal Haasan, is also part of a Telugu project, Kalki 2898 AD. Calling it a coincidence, Pawan concludes, “It’s great that both father and daughter are associated with Telugu cinema at the same time.”
