Varrier in the reckoning

Her wink brought her instant fame. now this malayalam actress is looking forward to her debut film which is being dubbed in kannada.

A year ago, she gave everyone a wink followed by a killer kiss which literally broke the Internet. In no time, Malayalam actress Priya Prakash Varrier became a sensation with a huge fan following across the globe. She would be known as the ‘wink girl’. That few seconds from her silent performance from the trailer of her debut movie Oru Adaar Love made a huge noise, and now the movie is finally releasing in not just Malayalam, but in four other languages, including Kannada. The dubbed version in Kannada is titled Kirik Love Story. The actress also bagged a Bollywood project Sridevi Bungalow, which has since run into controversy. Priya who was recently in town along with the entire team to promote the movie which is simultaneously releasing in multiple languages on Valentine’s Day, talks about her sensational debut, her overnight popularity and more.

Like any other teenager she had her dreams, to excel in studies as she pursued her graduation in commerce from the all-girl’s Vimala College in Thrissur, a place she hails from. While she wanted to become an actor, and rule the world of glitz and glamour, her other goal was to study Chartered Accountancy and also crack civil service examinations. Presently, she is in her second year B.Com.

However, destiny had an instant success plan for her. “It was just another scene from the song for the movie. The director had asked to me give a cute expression, and what followed is now history. The particular scene went viral after the trailer and the song was released. Though it brought fame and popularity, I would want to be remembered for my talent than being known for the wink act,” she says.

Soon after the sensational act became the hot topic all over, the actress was flooded with offers and there was even speculation that she would be making her debut in Sandalwood. However, she clarifies saying that she has not signed any project nor has she been offered any Kannada movie.

“I am extremely happy that my movie is releasing in several languages, and is being dubbed in Kannada too. It is not right to say that the movie is dubbed in other languages just for the attention it has garnered. It has good content which is set in high school. The filmmakers who watched the movie liked the universal subject with a different take on a love story. Hence, it was decided to dub it in other languages. This is another reason why the release was delayed due to the dubbing,” she adds.

It is learnt that the Kannada version will feature a special song as a tribute to Rebel Star Ambareesh which brings him back onscreen in a digital avatar through computer graphics.

On how she landed into the world of cinema, Priya reveals that she auditioned for a role in the movie after learning about it. Impressed by her performances, the director cast her in one of the lead roles in Oru Adaar Love.

While she says she knows very little about Sandalwood, she is aware of the sensational hit movie KGF. The Thrissur girls adds that she would love to do a Kannada movie if she gets a good project in the coming days.

Before she winks away, Priya who makes her Bollywood debut in Prashanth Mambully’s Sridevi Bungalow, restrains herself from making any comment on the controversy surrounding the film and says that she has only learnt through the media about it and she is yet to reach the film team to know more about it.
