Veteran actress Jayanthi passes away

Veteran South actress Jayanthi (76) passed away due to age-related ailments. She is survived by her son Krishna Kumar. In her illustrious career spanning decades, Jayanthi has acted in more than 500 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. She is known for excelling in performance-oriented roles.

The Kannada film industry had honoured the actress with the title Abhinaya Sharadhe a while back. She has also received seven Karnataka State Awards.
Jayanthi had shared screen space with superstars like Rajkumar, MGR, NT Rama Rao and Rajinikanth.
