Simha'ring with talent?
With barely any inclination towards acting, he simply took it as a challenge after many taunted him that a BCA student cannot act or perform on stage. It eventually led him to theatre, and soon the entire process of making a play made him fall in love with the performing art. A multi-talented actor and singer, who rose to stardom with an impeccable negative role in Rajahuli and then Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu which earned him critical success, is now on a roll with another distinctive role as protagonist in Dayavittu Gamanisi meaning ‘attention please’ starring alongside the beautiful Sangeetha Bhat. The film where Vasishta N. Simha, essays the role in one of the four stories with a
unique connection, is creating a buzz on social media for its soothing songs. Vasishta speaks about his vishistha (distinctive) journey.
“Though I did work in a couple of films which did not release, it was Rajahuli that gave me recognition. Then I played the antagonist’s role in a couple of filns. Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu was another milestone where my work was well-received both by critics and the audience. Now, Dayavittu Gamanisi has allowed me to showcase a romantic side while playing a lead role for one of the four plots in the film directed Rohit Padaki,” says Vasishta.
The actor, who did his BCA from National College reveals that he had no interest in getting into theatres or films but as many made fun of him during college days, he took it on as a challenge. “As I was a science student, and was quite popular in my circle, I did college plays, I took it as a challenge with no formal training or interest in the art. However, when I started getting more and more involved in theatre activities, I started loving the entire process. In fact, I wanted to become a singer and came to Bengaluru to achieve something in music,” he reveals.
The actor who landed in Bengaluru to become a singer, and ended up being an actor realised his singing ability too by singing a couple of songs for films including the one from the commercially successful film Kirik Party. He has even sung a number for the film Dayavittu Gamanisi directed by lyricist-writer-actor turned director Rohit Padaki.
“I wanted to showcase my romantic side, but I don’t like being typecast. I am always in search of a new genre and keep reshuffling. Dayavittu Gamanisi is not entirely romantic but it has four different plots running about 30 minutes each. Sangeetha Bhat and I feature in one story. It has great content with a philosophical touch. The best part is that the separate plots run parallelly with an amazing climax. It is about life and one can draw a lot from it,” Vasishta shares. Also a passionate sportsman, he did try his hands at cricket just like his other passion dance.
