Forty-fied for the new year

The year 2019 promises a slew of new films, and here are the list of movies for the cinema buff.

After a record breaking 2018, Sandalwood is gearing up to witness yet another exciting year. This time, the list of movies awaiting release are the maximum. Mixed with some highly-anticipated commercial sagas, there are some experimental ones that will also see the light of day. According to experts, the first three months of the new year will witness the release of not less than 40 films. Bengaluru Chronicle reports on movies rushing to hit the screens in 2019.

“Irrespective of the economics, the industry has fared well in 2018. There must be something which is driving filmmakers to come up with projects in such huge numbers. It can also be because of the newer markets emerging for Kannada movies, and audiences too, who have always appreciated good movies. Even the percentage of good content, be it in the making or fresh ideas are the highlight,” says producer Srikanth.

Post KGF, and films like Ananthu V/S Nusrath, the new year will witness the release of Kavacha starring Century Star Shivarajkumar in a unique role, where he plays a visually impaired individual, and then Nikhil Kumar, son of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, will return with his third venture Seetharama Kalyana in the month of January. Films like Kavaludaari, Chambal and many others with unique plots are also in this queue for 2019.

“We are planning to release the teaser of Natasarvabhouma starring Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar on December 21 and the movie will be released in January. There will be a lot of surprises for fans of the Power Star, and hence we are making sure we release it with a bang,” says Pavan Wadeyar.

Post Natasarvabhouma, it is going to be a treat for Challenging Star Darshan’s fans who will witness the release of Yajamana and the magnum opus Kurukshetra, a mythological drama. Then, comes Rustum starring Shivarajkumar which marks the directorial debut of stunt choreographer Ravi Varma. Kiccha Sudeepa’s Phailwaan is also going to be released in nine different languages with a launch slated for April 2019.

Other movies like Bell Bottom, and Birbal, a trilogy will witness the release of its first part. Fortuner starring Diganth and Sonu Gowda is also slated for release in January.

“The first half of the year is usually busy with big releases. With general elections around the corner, and then the cricket tournaments during summer holidays being a major factor, all this is reason for the rush,” says director Guru.
