She hails from the beautiful town of Thirthahalli in Shivamogga but has been a permanent resident of namma Bengaluru. Like many others, she had no ‘reel’ intentions of becoming an actress. In fact, she had set her sights upon an IPS career. With three years of training in martial arts like karate, she was determined to wear the khaki uniform but as destiny dictated, she eventually wore it in reel life as she embarked upon her journey as an actress. Megha Shree, who has so far acted in Telugu films is busy with back-to-back star-studded Kannada projects. The actress who earned critical appreciation in Telugu films like Oh My God and Khaki, speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle about her star projects in Kannada, and more.
“I never aspired to become an actress as my goal was to become a civil servant and serve as an IPS officer. However, I was always involved in extracurricular activities like drama during school. A few years later, I started getting modelling offers, and when I accepted assignments for major saree and jewellery brands, offers for films started coming in. I managed with Telugu as a language as it’s quite similar to my mother tongue Kannada. Also, it is because of my family’s support, especially my mother, I could do films,” says Megha Shree.
After her debut film in Kannada March 22 by renowned director Kudlu Ramakrishna starring the versatile senior actor Anantnag, Megha bagged two more star films, one featuring national award-winning actor Sanchari Vijay — Krishna Tulsi, and another titled Dasharatha where she plays the daughter of Crazy Star V Ravichandran. Another film, Kaddu Mucchi is opposite Vijay Surya of the Agnisakshi fame, a Kannada tele-serial.
“I had a great learning experience working on my first Kannada film March 22. The film is about the importance of water as March 22 is observed as World Water Day. The film involved stalwarts of the Kannada film industry, and every single shot was a great learning experience. We always had a huge crowd around the sets shooting in North Karnataka. Anantnag Sir would help me at times on the set. Sandalwood is very friendly to newcomers, and helps nurture young talent,” she adds. At present, Megha is on a study break. The actress who is simultaneously pursuing her degree in arts, has taken a short break from acting as her third semester exams are around the corner.
“I feel lucky to have three back-to-back quality films involving such great actors. Vijay Sir in Krishna Tulsi, and Ravi Sir in Dasharatha are extremely supportive. Despite being such senior actors, they are so down-to-earth, even when interacting with newcomers, which is very inspirational.” She plays a dubbing artiste in Krishna Tulsi, a daughter to Crazy Star in Dasharatha and a lover in Kaddu Mucchi. Before she wraps up, she stresses that she still has her sights set on becoming a police officer. She also awaits the release of the Telugu movie Oxygen along with her Kannada releases.
