Acting is in her DNA
Apart from being a dancer, singer and an actor, she has made her presence felt in multiple languages including Konkani, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayaman, Marathi and Hindi. The actress, who hails from the coastal region of the state, has a double post-graduate degree in political science and business administration. Actress Ester Noronha, who recently got married to Telugu actor and rapper Noel Sean, has several projects lined up including DNA in Kannada and Shakeela which is the biopic on adult star Shakeela directed by Sandalwood director Indrajit Lankesh. She also has Nayanam in Telugu wherein she is paired opposite her husband Noel. That apart, her Konkani film Kantaar (meaning song) starring Jackie Shroff, Noel and others, has been a huge hit among the local audience. The film has witnessed 400 successful shows across the globe. Ester talks about her films, marriage and more. Her Konkani version video album of Despacito has crossed one million views on Youtube.
In Kannada, Ester was last seen in the film Nuggekayi following which she starred in her home production Konkani film — Sophia which won the state award for the best regional film.
“After the tremendous response to our first home production in Konkani — Sophia, I was approached for Kantaar by the director who wanted to cast me in the film. But my mother liked the subject so much that we decided to produce it. When we were in search of an experienced actor who knew the culture and the real essence of the local region, we came across Jackie Shroff, who himself has a good connection with Mangaluru, Goa and is even well aware of Konkani culture and tradition. For him, it is the subject which I think drew him to do Kantaar. It is a musical film which talks about philosophy on life,” says Ester Norohna.
The movie has been screened in various parts of the globe and in Goa, it has witnessed huge success especially among the Konkani speaking community. “Even now, the movie has been doing well, right now with the Christain community observing ‘lent’ in the region, there have been no shows running at present,” she adds.
Apart from his Goan connection, the actress says that Jackie has even dubbed in his own voice in Konkani. They had even hired two tutors to teach Jackie Shroff the language.
Ester, who has even sung for the film, shares that Noel and herself, who starred in a Telugu film later became good friends as they shared common interests in music. “In the Konkani community, singing is kind of an obligation. It is part of our culture. It is music and common interest which brought Noel and me closer. We both came with up the idea of the local version of Despacito, which according to us has a lot of similarities when compared to the culture of Goa and the Spanish region. I did it in Konkani and Noel in Telugu. It became very popular.”
Speaking further on her marriage, she says, “It was Noel who proposed me and then the family decided on the wedding. It all happened in a jiffy,” says Esther adding that now that they have enough time together to discuss music, they soon plan to come up with another album. Noel also stars in Kantaar.
