Ashwini Nakshatra shines bright in Sandalwood!

She made an impact with her debut performance in the soap, Ashwini Nakshatra. Now Mayuri Kyatari has signed several Kannada films too.

Seven years ago, she made a grand debut on television in the most popular soap — Ashwini Nakshatra, which was initially promoted by Sandalwood queen Ramya. Since then, actress Mayuri Kyatari has grown leaps and bounds as an artiste, playing real and interesting roles on the silver screen. The Krishna Leela actress, who apart from bagging Century Star Shivarajakumar’s Rustum — wherein she plays a key role as his sister — has a bunch of exciting projects with varied characters, different from each other.

This apart, a couple of them are women-centric roles. From a thriller Nanna Prakara (which means ‘according to me’), a multi starrer to a romantic-comedy, playing a visually challenged girl to acting as a prostitute, Mayuri is on a roll. She talks about her films and more with Bengaluru Chronicle.

“I am happy that good and sensible projects are coming my way, and most importantly all of them are completely different from each other, which makes it even more exciting. Right now, Rustum, Nanna Prakara and Mounam are ready to hit the screens whereas Anaadyanta and two more projects which are not yet titled, are in the process of making,” says Mayuri.

Explaining about her exciting characters, she says that in Rustum she will be seen as Shivanna’s sister. “Apart from Shivanna being the reason, I liked the character which has importance throughout the movie. I often heard from others how down-to-earth he is. I finally got to experience it in person. The one thing I learnt from him, is to appreciate one’s work. It is important to self-appreciate at times in this competitive world. One must always learn to love oneself and appreciate all the hard work we have done. That apart, he is a great human being and is full of energy. Truly, age is just a number in his case,” she adds.

Krishna Leela, which was based on a real life incident, earned her appreciation which has resulted in many such similar roles coming her way. In one of upcoming projects, the film is based on a real life incident which dates back to the year 2000.

“I love fantasies too but as an artist e it is more satisfying that I am getting to live the real life characters. In another film, I play a visually challenged lady who is a sex worker. It has a greater message for the audience. At present, a lot is being discussed about women in society, and also on why a section of women end up on the wrong side of the system. The film deals with it very effectively,” shares Mayuri.

Apart from work, Mayuri reveals that she is an anti-social! What she really means is that she does not like to party or hangout with friends after work. “I’m an ‘anti-social’ person. I liked to stay at home and like to spend time with my family and indulge in crafting and practice yoga,” she smiles.

Before wrapping it up, she reveals that she has been listening to good scripts and a couple of exciting ones for web-series but has not signed any new ones. “A movie takes one year to complete and I consider various aspects before signing and never rush into it, as it should excite me as an actress. I am planning to take a short break of two to three months in September, may be visit my sister, who stays abroad,” she signs off.
