After an eventful year so far, with two releases, she is busy playing multiple roles both in real and reel life. Now, the current action queen of Sandalwood, Ragini Dwivedi, is in the process of quenching her thirst for more meaty and meaningful characters.
The ‘pretty’ tall actress who has shed some enormous weight for that size zero figure, is on a roll these days. After playing her signature role as a cop in a couple of her films and shining in a deglam avatar, Ragini is awaiting her next — Terrorist, directed by P C Shekar, wherein she plays a Muslim girl. Meanwhile the actress is busy promoting cricket across the state as the ambassador for Karnataka Premier League (KPL) which is set to kick off from August 15. She ‘catches’ up with Bengaluru Chronicle, talking about her new roles and more.
“I have had a good run this year with two films that have already released. I am also ready with another movie, which is going to be a memorable one for me as an actress. Terrorist directed by Shekar will soon hit the theatres. That apart, I am filming for my first ever full-fledged comedy venture alongside Sharan. While these kept me busy, I have been busy travelling for both films and to promote cricket in the state as an ambassador for KPL,” says Ragini, who feels that that her days are so action packed. But the actress has no complaints.
Speaking about her comedy film with Sharan, Ragini reveals that the movie is a remake of Malayalam hit film, Two Countries. While the actress has performed a special number in Victory, again starring Sharan, this one is going to be her first full fledged comic venture.
In Terrorist, she plays a Muslim girl. She explains: “It was a unique experience shooting for the film. Shekar has done a tremendous job, and instead of making it a talkative affair, he has scripted it well by giving importance to body language and emotions rather than stuffing more dialogues. In fact more than half of the film, the movie travels through such characteristics. It will certainly keep the audience on the edge. It’s crisp and sharp. About the film, it is a great step forward as there is no clear definition to the term ‘Terrorist/terrorism. It has got nothing to do with a certain religion, caste or creed. A terrorist can be anyone, and this is epicentre of this experimental.”
A lot of homework has gone into playing a Muslim girl, she adds revealing that from learning how to wear a burkha, to the right postures when offering namaz, the actress says that she got acquainted before playing the character.
One more film, Gandhigiri with director Prem, is on hold as the director is busy with filming Villain with Century Star Shivarajkumar, Kiccha Sudeep, Amy Jackson and others.
In the meanwhile, Ragini is having some fun travelling and focusing on taking up roles with substance. “Apart from films, I am busy taking care of my mother’s business. I am also interested in food and the beverage industry, and love to cook and write about it too, which is my prime area of interest. I am certainly not marrying for the time being, and it will happen when it is meant to happen,” she says wrapping up the conversation by adding that she will also be doing a periodic venture in the near future.
