Starry, starry kith & kin

Many sons of star actors are coming into the fray with their debut films... and we document their foray into Sandalwood.

Many senior actors are making way for their next generation to shine on the big screen. And we have seen a number of actors’ kin following in their footsteps. Even as the legacy of some popular actors in Sandalwood continues to charm the Kannada audience, their sons are getting launched as heroes. While the expectations are naturally high for all, the debutants are working hard to prove themselves like any new actor. After a series of star actor son’s made their entry including Vinay Rajkumar, Manoranjan Ravichandran, Pranaam Devaraj, it’s now the turn of Abhishek Gowda, the son of actor-politician and Rebel Star Ambareesh and actress Sumalatha Ambareesh, to take up acting. Even, Sharath Chandru, the son of actor-politician Mukhyamantri Chandru is reportedly being launched as a hero in the near future. Bengaluru Chronicle reports on these starry launchpads.

Abhishek Gowda, the son of star couple Ambareesh and Sumalatha Ambareesh is being launched with the film Amar which is being produced by Sandesh Nagaraj, and directed by Nagashekar of Sanju Weds Geetha fame.

“We never insisted that Abhishek become an actor but we always encouraged him to do what he aspires for. He expressed his desire to study abroad, and he completed his studies internationally, and came back. Later, when he decided to take up acting, I asked him to prepare himself by learning the necessary skills essential for an actor in the present scenario. It was only after he was ready that we decided to launch him,” Rebel Star Ambareesh revealed, at the launch of his son’s debut film Amar.

He further added that he had made it clear to Abhishek to respect and follow the guidance of the director. “It is the prime duty of an actor to respect and obey the filmmaker, and having an attitude of being the son of a star actor should never be exhibited while at work. I advised him to be punctual,” the Reber Star said.

While Sumalatha Ambareesh as a mother is hoping for the best results of her son’s debut, the actress took to social media urging support. “I seek all your prayers and blessings for my son Abhishek on his debut movie Amar. Hope, that you all shower the same love on him that you have blessed us with. Hope he lives up to expectations,” she wrote on Twitter following which almost every star actor responded by welcoming Abhishek to the industry.

Manoranjan Ravichandran, the son of Crazy Star Ravichandran, was launched with Saheba which received positive acclaim from both the audience and critics, despite it failing at the box office. He went onto return with Bruhaspati and now has another film Chillam up for release.

“Though my father talks only about films, we grew up in atmosphere where we made our own choices. I started playing cricket, and even reached district level. It was when I was about to make my entry into the state level, I suffered an injury on my hand. I guess acting and films was in my blood by birth, and I eventually embraced it,” says Manoranjan Ravichandran.

Insofar as Vinay Rajkumar, the third generation actor from the illustrious Dr Rajkumar family is concerned, he was one among the first one to be launched. His debut film Siddhartha was an average hit, and then Run Antony failed to impress the audience. He is returning with Ananthu v/s Nusruth.

Even Pranaam Devaraj, the second son of Dynamic Prince Devaraj is making his debut soon. During the launch of his debut film Kumari 21 F, the actor said, “I have always dreamt of acting — it was also an obvious choice with two good actors in my family.”

While all the star kids have the daunting task of living up to expectations, a series of other newcomers — sons of producers, directors and politicians are also making their way into the film industry.
