Parvathy speaks her heart out!

South Indian actress Parvathy gets candid in this exclusive interview where she talks about not doing a telugu film yet.

Parvathy may have done 18 films down South including Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada cinema and now her Bollywood debut film Qareeb Qareeb Single is ready to release. This young actress has completed her education from Kendriya Vidyalaya and does not have much of a problem mouthing dialogues in Hindi or any other language. “Yes! Having learned both the mediums, Hindi as well as English from Kendriya Vidyalaya I do not have much of a problem. In fact I did not know my mother tongue — Malayalam. I only learnt it when I when was in 12 standard. I have a flair for learning languages. I may take a little time but can easily converse in the given language.”

Parvathy does not differentiate amongst the various film industries. “For me, there is no difference between working in Bollywood or in South films since I have worked in almost 18 films so far. For me working in films is a pleasure and a blessing indeed. Whenever we do a film it’s a team work that brings a fantastic result. We first collaborate with the director and writer after hearing the story and thereafter your partnership extends to the actors as well. If we get to work with a great actor as a co-star, obviously the outcome too is great. Working with Irrfan Khan who literally strives to give varied dimensions to the character and the scenes not only brought forth a positive partnership, it also helped us portray our parts in an authentic manner. I am happy to work with Irrfan,” she adds.

Parvathy confesses that she performs organically, reacting to the script in a natural manner. “There is no code or strategy which will differentiate one industry from another [Bollywood or South films]. I have a simple formula. I love to act in films that are socially relevant. I am open to working in Marathi as well Bhojpuri films. For that matter I can work in any language if it has a good script.” Ask her who her favourite actor is and Parvathy says, “From the earlier lot of actors I am fascinated by the work of Ratna Pathak Shah.” She is not in favour of remakes and says, “I remember I did perform one of my characters from a Malayalam film in a Tamil film as well. But I was not too happy. I feel doing remakes is not my forte as I do not have to do much and feel very bored. I always love to do something original.”

Having worked down South in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada films Parvathy has yet not worked in Telugu films. Ask her about the same and she says, “I have not got any happening or good scripts until now .Thus I have yet not done any films in Telugu. But If I get a good offer I will love to be a part of a Telugu film as well. I am not averse to doing Telugu films. It has not worked out date wise too.”

We move back to Bollywood and ask her who her favourite Khan is. Salman, Shahrukh and Aamir who would she like to work with … “I really do not have any favourites, that’s not being diplomatic. I feel each one of them have their own strengths and weaknesses too. If I may have enjoyed some of their work, there are times when I have not been impressed by a performance too. Now isko controversy maat bana dena,”she asserts.

Ask her about the short term span of a heroine’s career, she says, “The industry is responsible for this. It is very simple if they do not give us work how will we change it? Also I feel it is not wise to allow somebody else to decide the time span of our working career. It is a chauvinistic view and is really disrespectful. I don’t put up with this . I totally disagree with this old age attitude. “she concludes.
