A crazy, crazy, crazy world!
He is a permanent resident of Prema Loka and his craze for movies has made him the Crazy Star of Sandalwood. An undying spirit as actor, director, producer and composer V Ravichandran is still a force to reckon with.
Though, he has transformed playing definitive roles while supporting the younger crop in the industry, he is constantly working to revisit his glorious past and challenge himself.
In a rare feat, not one but three of his movies were recently launched on a single day, which also includes his own production for which he is the director himself. A triple treat for Crazy fans, he opens up about his cinematic thoughts after his most ambitious project Apoorva did not fair well at the box office.
“All three films Rajendra Ponnappa, Dasharatha and Bakasura are original. None of them is a remake or inspired by any other work. I took almost seven months to cleanse myself (figuratively) after Apoorva. I was on a philosophical path but now I have to re-route myself to what I thought in the past while making movies. Apoorva did not fail because it was a bad film but because most of the audience failed to understand it,” says the Crazy Star.
Rajendra Ponnappa, Dasharatha and Bakasura will go on floors when the particular teams are ready to shoot. “All three directors, and the concerned producers were involved in the script making. We have had no difference of opinion when it comes to working simultaneously. We have been sharing ideas for the projects, and I am glad that all the three are happening with enough preparation after a lot of thought has been put in. This time, I assure my audience that it will not disappoint them at all,” says the confident showman.
Ravichandran is producing and directing Rajendra Ponnappa himself under the prestigious banner Sri Ishwari Production. The film explores the relationship between a father and a daughter. In fact, the film was earlier tentatively titled Appa but with the title unavailable, it was changed to Rajendra Ponnappa, which is the character he played in the mega hit film Drishya.
Dasharatha is being directed by MS Ramesh, and he will be donning the role of a lawyer after a long time. He was last seen playing a full-time lawyer in Yuddha Khanda which featured Poonam Dhillon, and was released in 1989. In Dasharatha, Ravichandran will have three heroines just like the mythological character in Ramayana who had three wives.
For Bakasura, directed by Navneeth of the Karva fame, the thriller will show the Crazy Star in a different avatar, and RJ-turned actor Rohith, who was last seen in Karva, will be sharing screen space with him.
His elder son, Manoranjan has already wrapped up the shoot of his two movies Saheba and VIP in an effort to earn his place in the industry, and thereafter, he plans to direct his sons under his home banner, the proud father divulges.
Before he gets busy with his triple treat, the Crazy Star mulls about how ironic it is that he made successful films when he had hardly any knowledge about films, where as when he knows enough, it has become harder to achieve the same success! But he is determined that he sees success and this triple treat might just be the key!
