People Enjoy Watching Characters Who Break The Law: Saif Ali Khan
The film 'Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins' is set to premier on April 25

Netflix unveiled the trailer of “Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins”
Netflix has unveiled the trailer of the upcoming heist thriller “Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins”, starring Saif Ali Khan as Rehan Roy, a charming and cunning thief with wits as sharp as his moves, and Jaideep Ahlawat as Rajan Aulakh, a cool and calculated mafia boss.
Packed with style, speed, and suspense, the film is set to launch on April 25 and promises an edgy ride from start to finish.
“In a heist film like Jewel Thief, the lines between hero, anti-hero, and mastermind are often blurred. What I like about heist movies is that the guy does something technically wrong—he breaks the law—but he does it for a good reason, maybe to help someone in his family. It’s an honourable kind of theft, which makes for a very exciting character. He has criminal-like skills. I think people enjoy watching characters who break the law, and such stories give them a chance to take on the system. That’s what heist films are all about. This one also has a strong anti-hero,” said Saif Ali Khan at a press conference.
When asked about the kind of content that trends among Gen Z, Saif said,
“The producers know better what trends are happening. We’re actors—we get offers based on their thinking—so they know better what films should be made. We’re lucky that we get lots of different types of offers. Hopefully, those offers are based on some kind of knowledge. It’s very difficult to predict trends.”
He added,
“I think you should follow yourself. For example, when it comes to clothes, I feel I have a sense of fashion—that’s what I believe in my heart. If you strongly feel something, there’s a chance people will agree with you. But if you try to do what someone else wants, you’ll fail—because that’s impossible to do.”
On a lighter note, when asked if his Netflix subscription is free, he replied, “I too have to pay for Netflix. I think I’m paying approximately Rs 499 per month. Everybody pays—no discounts, and it’s not free even for actors.”
Saif also shared his thoughts on not taking advantage of personal connections. “If a friend has a restaurant, I don’t like going there for free meals. I think even friends should pay. I don’t like taking advantage of things like that.”
Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, and produced by Marflix Pictures in its streaming debut, Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins marks the first collaboration between Netflix and the production house founded by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand.
