Review of Resident Playbook

It follows the journey of their four first-year OB-GYN residents.

The official spinoff of the beloved Hospital Playlist – Resident Playbook finally came to an end last week. It is a slice-of-life medical series set in the understaffed obstetrics and gynaecology department at the Seoul Jongno branch of the fictional Yulje Medical Centre. It follows the journey of their four first-year OB-GYN residents.

The series’ protagonist is Go Youn-jung, who is popularly known for her role as “Naksu” in Alchemy of Soul’s. Here she plays “Oh Yi-young,” a first-year resident who reluctantly gets employed at Yulje to pay her credit card debts. She secures her job as Yulje’s OB-GYN department is desperate for new recruits. She is joined by Shin Shi-ah, who plays “Pyo Nam- kyung,” a fashionista, Um Jae-il, a kind soul and former K-pop idol played by Kang Yoo- seok, and emotionally closed-off Kim Sabi played by Han Ye-ji.
As they begin to work together, four of them do not get along well and think that they are incompatible with each other because of their differing personalities. They all lack confidence and hands-on experience and fail at simple tasks that end up creating problems for their senior doctors and nurses. But this is the story of Resident Playbook, they are meant to fail, learn and grow.
By the end of this season, new friendships have emerged, and the four first-year residents have all found their way around the hospital. They are no longer timid and are not afraid to give their hand in the medical field. There is also a budding romance between the leads – Oh Yi-young and Ko Duwon. Their relationship is shown to be subtle yet intense. Then there’s something brewing between Sabi and her idol, Um Jae-il. We can also not forget the intern, Tak Gi-on and Nam-kyung.
